June 10, 2008 – More than 20 years have passed since much of the content of Joel Belz's new book was originally published as editorial columns in the weekly Christian interest newsmagazine WORLD, but the timelessness of Belz's insights make them just as relevant today as they were then.

That timelessness is just what prompted World & Life Books publisher Matthew Mulder to approach Belz about a compilation volume. The task of sifting through thousands of columns written over more than two decades seemed daunting, but soon a manuscript began to develop, and Consider These Things: Observations on God's Work in the World ($12.95 paperback) took shape. The book was officially released in May.

Joel Belz is the founder of WORLD magazine, now a bi-weekly newsmagazine. Prior to founding WORLD in 1986, he was the managing editor of The Presbyterian Journal. Belz is a recipient of the James DeForest Murch award from the National Association of Evangelicals. He is a prominent speaker on Christian worldview thinking, with regular engagements in church, educational, political, and cultural arenas across the United States. He continues to write a regular column for WORLD.

The book exhorts Christians to "lift their eyes to the wide open atrium of the Christian household of faith" and attempt to answer Francis Schaeffer's question, "How should we then live?" Addressing weighty issues such as the effectiveness of democracy in a godless culture, parameters for defining the value of a human life, and the relationship between pietism and activism, Belz's writing is deeply thought-provoking but easily accessible.

World & Life Books is simultaneously releasing Consider These Things as an audio book ($19.95), read by the author.
