The author was educated in Colorado and started mountaineering then as a pastime. This developed into a passion which consumed all his time and efforts. It was that winter-time alpine beauty that first drew him to the mountains of Wyoming. Then followed the sparkling ice walls of Alaska and next the gigantic Himalayan monsters with their awe- inspiring grandeur. He was always seeking greater difficulties to be climbed. He returned from these outings feeling invincible. Then came a time when his endeavors became more reasonable.
